do you know Thomas Edison’s companion invented the ‘horn’ of vehicles! find out
The automotive industry is very broad. Every single vehicle and its every part makes the automobile field even richer. It must be said that the horn of your car is one such integral part of the automotive industry. Today we are going to see how this horn was invented. At the end of the 19th century, when the world’s first cars started running on the roads, they were very slow. Initially, people used ‘klaxons’ or hand-cranked rubber kettles to warn pedestrians.
The first official electronic horn for vehicles was invented by Miller Rees Hutchison in 1908. Hutchison patented the device, which was later named the ‘klaxon horn’. This horn would make a loud and sharp ‘squeak’ sound, which would make even a person at a distance aware of the approaching vehicle. Thomas Edison’s company also improved this technology further.

Changes in car and bike horns
Car horn: Early cars had only one horn. However, in the 1930s, the speed of the car increased. Companies then started using two horns in cars. These horns combine different tones to create an easy-to-listen but long-range sound.
Bike horn: Small and lightweight electronic horns were developed for two-wheelers due to their small size. Bikes mainly use 12 volt battery powered diaphragm horns.
‘Come Mary Luna’! Another name for simplicity and the golden age of the Indian automobile revolution
In India during the British era, there was a man who would walk in front of the cars with a red flag to signal the arrival of the car to the people. After that the use of horn became mandatory. Today, technology has changed and air-powered ‘pressure horns’ and ‘musical horns’ have come into the market. However, due to increasing noise pollution, avoiding unnecessary use of horn in cities and using appropriate decibel horn has become the need of the day.
