Bankipur Assembly seat has been a stronghold of the Bharatiya Janata Party for a long time. BJP has dominated this seat in the last several elections. The seat became vacant after former MLA Nitin Naveen got new responsibility at the national level, due to which by-election is being held here.

Discussion of many names in BJP
The name of Neel Ratan Ghosh is being taken prominently among the possible candidates from BJP. He is considered a long-time active leader in the organization. Apart from this, names of party’s national spokesperson Dr. Ajay Alok, Ashish Sinha, son of former MLA Arun Sinha and Ritu Jaiswal, who recently joined BJP, are also said to be among the possible contenders. However, the party has not yet officially approved any name.

Political experts believe that if Prashant Kishor contests the elections (Bankipur Bypoll), then the main contest can be seen between BJP and Jan Suraj. Meanwhile, Janashakti Janata Dal has declared social worker Meena Manvi as its candidate.

Now all eyes are on July 5, when Jan Suraj can announce the name of his candidate. At the same time, BJP can also announce its candidate during this time. Nominations will be filed for the by-election till July 13. Voting will take place on July 30 and results will be declared after counting on August 3.
