But before that his last journey will last for 7 days. On the first day, big leaders of many countries will attend Khamenei’s last journey. His last journey will cover a distance of about 3 thousand kilometers from Iran to Iraq. During this period, processions and religious rituals will be seen in different cities of Iran and Iraq. How many cities will the last journey pass through?

The last journey of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will last from July 3 to July 9. Within these days, this last journey will pass through 5 major cities of Iran and Iraq. Which have their own different importance.

4 and 5 July 2026 (Tehran, Iran)

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s last journey will start from Tehran. Where his body will be kept in the Grand Mosalla (Imam Khomeini Prayer Grounds) along with other family members for the last darshan (tribute) of the public. This is one of the largest prayer complexes in Iran.

6th and 7th July 2026 (KOM)

A huge public funeral procession will be taken out on the streets of Tehran. This procession will move through Tehran towards Qom, 120 kilometers away. Qom is one of the holiest cities in Iran. Which is also considered the main center of Shia Islamic education. There are also big madrassas here.

8 July 2026 (Najaf and Karbala, Iraq)

On July 8, the last journey will reach the neighboring country Iraq. Here the funeral procession will be taken out in Najaf and Karbala, the very historical and holy cities of Shia community. During this period, processions will also be seen here. Najaf houses the mausoleum of Imam Ali, which is one of the holiest places for Shias. Every year lakhs of pilgrims come here. Apart from this, there are the tombs of Imam Hussein and his half brother Abbas in Karbala, which are included in the holy places of Shias.

9 July 2026 (Mashhad, Iran)

Finally, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s last journey will be brought to his hometown Mashhad, where he was born in 1939 and where he also spent his childhood. Here, he will be given a final farewell and buried in Imam Raza Shrine. Mashhad is one of the holiest cities in Iran, as it houses the tomb of Reza, the eighth Imam of Shia Islam.

Will Mojtaba Khamenei attend?

Earlier information had come out that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s son and Supreme Leader of Iran Mojtaba Khamenei would also attend his funeral, but on Friday reports came out that Mojtaba would not attend due to security reasons. Ever since Mojtaba was injured in the Israeli-American air strike, he has not appeared even once.

Who was Ayatollah Ali Khamenei?

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was the Supreme Leader of Iran. Which were being made continuously since 1969. Although his family’s roots are of Azerbaijani origin, his ancestors were from Barabanki in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Ayatollah Khamenei has a total of 6 children.
