El Nino is getting stronger…! Danger of severe heat wave, drought and heavy rain increases in many parts of the world
New Delhi. Dangerous changes in weather patterns may be seen across the world. The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) issued a warning on Friday, saying that El Niño conditions in the tropical Pacific Ocean could rapidly strengthen in the coming months. Due to this, the risk of severe heat, drought, torrential rains and other extreme weather events has increased significantly in many parts of the world.
According to the WMO report, there is a strong possibility of El Nino developing in a very strong form during July to September this year. WMO Director General Celeste Saulo said that El Nino has started and according to our estimates it is rapidly going to take a powerful form. Due to this, the risk of drought, heavy rains, severe heat waves in land areas and marine heatwaves will increase manifold in many parts of the world.
What will be the impact on India?
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had announced the arrival of El Nino in the country on June 12 itself and said that it would become stronger during the south-west monsoon season. Its effect was visible in June, when rainfall in the country was reduced by 40%. Central India was the most affected, where 50.4% deficient rainfall was recorded. IMD has predicted below average rainfall in July also.
