An Afghan migrant has been found guilty of raping two 14-year-old girls by making them drink vodka. 29-year-old Sultani Baktash got acquainted with a teenage girl on the social media app Snapchat. After this, on December 6, 2025 last year, she and a friend were called to her flat in Bolton, Greater Manchester. During the hearing in Bolton Crown Court, the public prosecutor informed that Sultani Baktash made the girls drink alcohol and then after they became unconscious, he raped both of them one by one. It is a different matter that Sultani denied the allegations, but on Friday (July 03, 2026) the jury found him guilty. After a 4-week trial, he was convicted on two counts of rape, one count of molestation of girls and one count of assault by penetration. He will be sentenced on September 19

After committing this crime, Sultani Baktash ran away from home, but was arrested after 2 days. After this, the Child Protection Investigation Unit of Greater Manchester Police (GMP) started investigating the case. Sultani Baktash came to UK with his mother and two sisters in the year 2022. Testifying during the trial with the help of a translator, he told the court that at the time of the alleged attack he was very sleepy and had fallen asleep briefly. He said that both the girls were making noise and he had asked them to leave his flat.

The accused said in the court – he does not remember anything

On the other hand, lawyer Umar Shahzad asked- ‘Did anyone do anything to you?’ To which Sultani Baktash replied, ‘I cannot say.’ Bolton Crown Court was told that Sultani Baktash gave the girls alcohol and then raped them after they became unconscious. It is being told that three months before the events of December 6, 2025, he told that he had met a girl outside McDonald’s. He was eating after leaving the gym when the girl and another man asked him to buy food for them. Sultani Baktash told that he told her that I neither have cash nor money in the card, but maybe some other time I can feed them. He further said- ‘She told me that she is 18 years old.

He woke up at 2 o’clock in the afternoon

He told the court that about two weeks later he saw the same girl in ‘Asda’. She said she saw me, she came over to me, we greeted each other and I said I needed help with the sugar. She helped me find sugar because last time I had mistakenly replaced sugar with flour. Sultani Baktash told that the girl added him on Snapchat and they used to message occasionally. He said that she used to take screenshots of ‘Stories’ of his time in the military or his time in the gym. Talking about the day of the alleged incident, he said that he woke up at 2 pm and about half an hour later his mother and sisters came to his flat. He told that the girl started messaging and calling him on Snapchat.

He said, ‘When I saw his messages, he mentioned the promise I had made to feed him and take him to McDonald’s. Sultani Baktash told that before meeting that girl and the other alleged victim, he had made a video call to the girl. When asked why he met that girl? On this, accused Sultani Baktash said that ‘I had promised him about food, and he had helped me. He told that he shared his location so that they could meet. He told that when he met the two girls, they were ‘very happy and laughing’. After this they went to buy food. He again said he thought the girls were 18 or 19 years old.

Sultani Baktash further told that he bought three bottles of vodka for the girls. He said he does not drink, smoke or take drugs because he is Muslim, and he bought himself ‘Monster Energy Drink’. During the eight-minute journey, she said they were ‘giggling, taking selfies and talking to each other’. Mr. Shahzad asked, -What was your intention? On this Sultani Baktash said that she told me that she wanted to see my flat, finish her drink and then go to the city. He said the girls were drinking Diet Coke and vodka before deciding to take a sip from the bottle.

Girls expressed hope for justice

He told that before making the drink of diet coke and vodka, the girls laughed at his reaction. All three said that we hope this result will send a clear message that we will take strict action against those who harm vulnerable people. He said that we expected that we will always be heard, you will be respected and you will get full support.
