After being stuck in controversies for almost three years, Diljit Dosanjh’s famous film has finally been released. However, the audience will get to see this film not with the name ‘Punjab 95’ but with the name ‘Satluj’. At one time there was talk of making 127 cuts in this film, but now the makers claim that the film has been released without any cuts.
Diljit Dosanjh and director Honey Trehan say that only the name of the film has been changed, its story, dialogues and scenes are the same as before.
What is the film based on?
‘Satluj’ is a film which is inspired by the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalda. Diljit Dosanjh is playing the lead role in this film. Along with him, Kanwaljit Singh, Arjun Rampal, Suvinder Vicky and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan are also seen in important roles.
Why was the name of the film changed?
Diljit Dosanjh told in a live session that due to some reasons the film could not be named ‘Punjab 95’. Therefore its new name was kept ‘Satluj’. However, he insisted that only the name of the film was changed, there was no change in the content. He said that if even a single scene or dialogue had been cut from the film, he himself would not have promoted it.
What did director Honey Trehan say?
Director Honey Trehan also supported Diljit’s point. He said that Jaswant Singh Khalda’s wife Paramjit Kaur Khalda has also confirmed that the released film is the same one which she had seen earlier. According to Honey Trehan, all the dialogues and scenes about which he had earlier raised objections are present in the film. Therefore, it would be wrong to say that any cuts have been made in the film.
What was the controversy regarding the censor board?
The film kept waiting for the approval of the Censor Board (CBFC) for a long time. Earlier Honey Trehan had claimed that the board had suggested making 127 changes in the film. He said that if so many changes were made, the actual story of the film would have changed. The director had also alleged that he was asked to make changes in the title of the film, some names and several references. However, regarding the now released film, the makers say that only the name has been changed and the rest of the film has been kept the same.
Where was the film released?
This film, which reached the Censor Board in December 2022, remained stuck due to many reasons. Now after almost three years, this film titled ‘Satluj’ is now streaming on ZEE5, where viewers can finally watch it in its original form.
