This big decision was taken for the expansion of the station

According to the RTA, the Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall metro station is one of the busiest stations on the Red Line. There is a huge crowd of travelers going to Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall every day. To increase the capacity of this station, a major expansion project is being started, in which Emaar Properties is also collaborating with RTA. Due to safety reasons during the construction work, this affected service road will be reserved only for the use of construction vehicles.

New arrangements made for the convenience of passengers

RTA has prepared a strong traffic plan to ensure that passengers do not face any problem during this temporary closure. Under this the following steps have been taken:

  • A new bus layby has been created for passenger buses so that bus services can continue without any interruption.
  • Clear and large signboards have been installed around the metro station, which will show the correct path to the passengers and drivers.
  • Passengers have been advised to strictly follow the guidelines posted on the new route and take special care of the speed limit.
  • RTA has appealed to the people to allow some extra time before leaving for their journey to avoid any inconvenience.

How will the new metro station look after expansion?

Under this project, the total built-up area of the station is being increased from 6,700 square meters to 8,500 square meters. This will increase the station’s capacity by 65% and enable it to handle 12,320 passengers per hour, up from 7,250. The new changes include installing new escalators and lifts, creating separate gates for incoming and outgoing passengers and increasing the number of fare gates with ticket counters. After the complete work is completed, this station will be able to serve about 2.20 lakh passengers every day.
