Satluj OTT Release: ‘Satluj’ released after 3 years of censorship controversy, Diljit Dosanjh’s big claim; ‘Just the name changed, the film is completely uncut’

Diljit Dosanjh Satluj OTT Release: After being stuck in certification controversy for almost three years, Diljit Dosanjh’s much-awaited film has finally reached the audiences. The film, which released under the new title Sutlej on ZEE5 on Friday, was originally announced as Punjab ’95 and is inspired by the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra.

Directed by Honey Trehan, this film stars Diljit along with Arjun Rampal, Kanwaljeet Singh, Suvinder Vicky and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan in the lead roles. With the release of this film, one of the most talked about battles regarding censorship in recent Hindi cinema has come to an end.

‘If even a single cut had been made in it, I would not have promoted it’

Addressing fans during an Instagram Live session with Honey Trehan, Diljit clarified that the title of the film may have changed, but its story has not changed. He said, “Our film has finally released on ZEE5. Unfortunately, due to some reasons we couldn’t title it ‘Punjab ’95’, so now it’s titled ‘Sutlej’. But there are no cuts in the film. The version I saw in theaters two years ago is still available. If there was even a single cut, I would have never promoted this film.”

Director Trehan also supported this claim, saying that Jaswant Singh Khalra’s wife Paramjit Kaur Khalra has also watched the streaming version and confirmed that it is identical to the cut shown privately earlier. The filmmaker said, “All the things that I had objected to being removed are still in the film. No changes have been made in the dialogues or scenes that I fought for. Only the title has been changed.”

what was the dispute

Sutlej became one of the most talked about unreleased films after Honey Trehan alleged that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had demanded 127 cuts before granting certification. In several interviews over the past two years, the filmmaker argued that accepting those changes would have fundamentally changed the film. He claimed that the suggested amendments included changing the title, removing references to the Punjab Police, removing mentions of historical figures and places, muting some dialogues and changing scenes related to the period of the story.
