Ayatollah Ali Khamenei Funeral: The funeral of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is being performed in Iran, four months after his death. His funeral rituals have started on July 4, which will continue till July 9 and after which his body will be buried. Meanwhile, a shocking news has come to light. According to which, the Iranian government is digging thousands of graves before Khamenei’s funeral.

According to the information, German media house WELT has released a report based on information received from Tehran. It said that the Iranian government feared that 1,500 to 3,000 people would be killed at the funeral of Supreme Leader Khamenei. Due to this, the Iranian government has also made preparations for this situation behind the scenes.

Why is the Iranian government scared?

The Iranian government has expressed apprehension that people from across the country will attend Ali Khamenei’s funeral. According to the government, 1.5 to 2 crore people can attend the funeral. The government of Iran is scared about the number of people attending the funeral. Iran has a long history of stampedes and violence at the funerals of prominent leaders. The government fears that there may be a stampede and other incidents at Khamenei’s funeral. In which 1,500 to 3,000 people may die.

Due to these apprehensions, the government has made arrangements for more than a thousand graves. A municipal official in Tehran said, “We have actually prepared the graves.” Even if 3,000 people die during the funeral due to stampede or heat, the situation will not be allowed to go out of control. The officer said that because of the extreme heat and the crowd, the chances of a stampede are high.

Red Crescent sent a letter

Meanwhile, a journalist has claimed that National Crisis Management and Iranian Red Crescent have sent a secret letter to Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Arif. The letter said that thousands of graves have been prepared in many cemeteries of Tehran due to the fear of death due to stampede and other incidents during the funeral procession.

The bloody history of funerals in Iran

A major reason behind this fear of the Iranian government is the history of deaths of people during the funerals of big leaders in Iran. In 1989, when the funeral procession of Iran’s first Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khomeini was carried out, 8 people were killed and hundreds were badly injured in the stampede. Similarly, in the year 2020, when the funeral procession of Kurds Force Commander Qasim Suleimani was taken out after his death, 56 people died during a sudden stampede in Kerman city. While 200 people were injured. This is the reason why the Iranian government is afraid of a stampede at Khamenei’s funeral.
