Ali Khamenei Funeral Last Rites In 5 Cities: The funeral rituals of Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei have now begun in full swing. On February 28 this year, he and his family tragically died in the horrific air strikes by America and Israel. After his death, a fierce war started across West Asia and now he is being sent off after the ceasefire. From Friday, July 3, major programs for his state funeral have formally started in the capital of Iran.

Lakhs of people from India and abroad and special representatives of many countries are attending his huge and historic funeral in large numbers. His mortal remains will be taken with full respect to 5 major cities of Iran and Iraq namely Tehran, Qom, Najaf, Karbala and Mashhad. According to media reports, it is estimated that about 1.5 to 2 crore people will participate in this huge last farewell. For this, the government has made metro, special trains and government buses completely free for all the common people coming to Tehran.

Last farewell in Tehran and Qom

Khamenei’s last farewell rituals have started in Iran’s capital Tehran from July 3, where a huge crowd of people is gathering. Along with him, the coffins of his wife, daughter, son-in-law and 14-month-old granddaughter have also been kept at the Grand Mosala Mosque for last darshan. His funeral procession will be kept here for three consecutive days and on July 6, a huge funeral procession will be taken out on the streets of Tehran. After this, on July 7, his body will be taken to Qom city, the main and major center of religious education of Shia Islam.

Funeral prayers in Iraq’s holy cities

After completing the journey to Qom, on July 8, Khamenei’s coffin will be taken to the holy city of Najaf in neighboring Iraq. The public funeral procession will take place at the Imam Ali shrine in the city of Najaf, considered one of the Shia community’s holiest sites. After this, his mortal remains will be brought for darshan to Karbala, another very holy and historical city of Iraq. There, this huge funeral procession of Khamenei will be taken out with a huge crowd at the holy shrines of Imam Hussein and his brother Abbas.

Cremation will take place in Mashhad

After all the important and religious visits to Iran and Iraq, Khamenei’s body will be brought back to the Iranian city of Mashhad on July 9. Mashhad is his home district and he will be laid to rest there on the same day i.e. 9th July. He will be buried forever with full state and religious honors at the historic and very sacred Imam Raza Dargah complex there. These 5 cities have been specifically chosen because they are very holy and important religious centers of the Shia community.
