Vaibhav Suryavanshi will debut in the second T20 match against England, breaking Sachin’s record

New Delhi: 15 years, 3 months and 7 days. At this age, Vaibhav Suryavanshi of Bihar created history. This young batsman from Samastipur made his debut for India in the second T20I against England in Manchester on 4th July. With this he became the youngest player to play international cricket for India.

Journey from IPL to India Cap

Vaibhav had caught everyone’s attention in the IPL with his explosive batting. On Saturday, Tilak Verma handed him the Team India cap. Tilak Verma wore the cap and the entire team hugged and congratulated him. That moment was really heart touching.

Many people were saying that this debut happened 3 matches late. He had to sit on the bench in 2 T20Is against Ireland and the first match against England. But the team management in Manchester finally expressed confidence in this stormy opener.

Vaibhav came from India A team in June. He took a dig at the Sri Lanka A bowlers in the tri-series final held in Dambulla. By scoring fifty in just 11 balls, he made the record of the fastest List A half century. He missed the fastest List A century by scoring 94 runs in 29 balls. The selectors had probably decided here that now they have to bring him into the senior team.

Sachin and Shafali’s record broken

Vaibhav made his T20I debut for India at the age of 15 years and 99 days. In this way she broke the record of female cricketer Shafali Verma. Shafali made her debut in 2019 at the age of 15 years 239 days.

In men’s cricket, Vaibhav also broke Sachin Tendulkar’s 30 year old record. Sachin made his debut at the age of 16 and till now he was considered the youngest male debutant of India.

India has given opportunities to teenage players in the past also. Parthiv Patel debuted at 17 years 152 days, Harbhajan Singh debuted at 17 years 288 days. Yuvraj Singh made his ODI debut at the age of 18 years and 124 days. But debut has rarely happened at such a young age and with so many expectations.
