President Trump reported on Saturday, July 4, 2026, that Netanyahu had requested a meeting. However, Israeli officials say next week may be too early because there is a NATO summit in Turkey on July 7 and 8. For this reason the meeting is likely to take place next week.
Netanyahu’s office confirmed that he spoke to Trump on Friday and the two agreed to meet soon. This will be their first meeting since the Situation Room meeting in February, where military operations against Iran were planned.
This meeting is taking place at a time when America and Israel are at war with Iran and its allies. This war started on 28 February 2026, when several senior officials, including Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, were killed in joint air strikes. A ceasefire is currently in place since April, but peace talks are stalled due to Khamenei’s funeral.
According to reports, tension has also increased between Trump and Netanyahu over regional issues. Trump has criticized Israel’s continued attacks in Lebanon. Also, US officials suspected that Israel was trying to kill Iranian negotiators during peace talks, for which the US intervened and warned Iran.
