Mumbai Rain Alert: 4.19 meter high tide will come today amid torrential rains in Mumbai, administration issues big warning
Maharashtra: Continuous torrential rains in the country’s financial capital Mumbai have affected normal life. Roads in many areas of the city have been submerged in water, due to which people are facing huge problems in transportation. Houses and shops in many low-lying areas have also been flooded. Andheri subway has been closed for several days due to waterlogging, while at many places vehicles were seen more than half submerged in water.
IMD issued red alert
India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert of heavy to very heavy rain in Mumbai and surrounding areas for Sunday. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of a high tide of about 4.19 meters at 3:22 pm.
In such a situation, the risk of waterlogging in sea shores and low-lying areas may increase further. The administration has appealed to the people to come out of their homes only when absolutely necessary and follow the advice of the Meteorological Department and the local administration.
Record rain in many areas
Heavy rain was recorded in many areas of Mumbai during the last 24 hours. Vikhroli recorded the highest rainfall of 253 mm. Apart from this, 252.5 mm rainfall was received in Ram Mandir area, 224.5 mm in Santa Cruz, 172.5 mm in Byculla, 169 mm in Vidyavihar, 165.5 mm in Colaba and 157.5 mm in Sion. Due to continuous rain, there is waterlogging on many roads.
BMC released helpline numbers
In view of the heavy rains, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and other local administrations are on full alert. In case of any emergency, people can contact BMC’s helpline 1916. Apart from this, separate helpline numbers have also been issued for Thane, Palghar and Panvel so that the needy people can get immediate assistance.
Rain may continue for next few days also
According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rains may continue in many parts of Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Konkan and Central Maharashtra between July 4 and 6. There is a possibility of heavy rain in Raigad, Thane, Palghar, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg as well as Ghat areas of Pune, Satara and Nashik. The administration is continuously monitoring the situation and is appealing to the people to remain alert.
