“If you want to stop me, you will have to kill me” Amidst the turmoil in TMC, Mamata Banerjee’s open challenge to the rebel leaders.
There is an earthquake in the politics of West Bengal at this time. After the crushing defeat in the assembly elections, the fire of rebellion has flared up within the Trinamool Congress (TMC). Most of the party’s 80 MLAs have formed a separate faction under the leadership of Ritabrata Banerjee, and many Lok Sabha MPs have also left Mamata Banerjee. But despite all this, ‘Didi’s attitude has not weakened. Mamta Banerjee challenged the rebels and said, “If you want to stop me, you will have to kill me.”
“Rebels are traitors, the election symbol will remain mine”
Mamata Banerjee has termed the leaders who left the party as ‘traitors’. He bluntly said that the election symbol of Trinamool will remain with him and his loyal colleagues. After this statement it has become clear that the rebel group will now have to be prepared for a long legal battle. Mamata made it clear that no rebel leader has any right on the party’s property and symbol and she will not compromise with these people under any circumstances.
Chandrima Bhattacharya’s resignation and Mamta’s bluntness
On Saturday, TMC Chief suffered another big blow when Chandrima Bhattacharya also resigned from the party. Later he was seen with the group of opposition leader Ritabrata Banerjee. Mamata Banerjee, reacting to this, said that Chandrima’s resignation was not a surprise for her, as her son had already joined the rebel group. Mamta outright rejected the proposal of becoming an ‘adviser’ from the rebels. She said, “I will not join hands with any rebel. I do not accept to bow before BJP or any other pressure.”
Response to occupation of party office
Mamata Banerjee appeared quite strict on the issue of rebels capturing and locking party offices. He said, “Those who are locking the offices should remember that this property has been taken on rent and its lease is till October 2027. A person can leave the party, but no one can destroy this institution of ‘Maa, Mati, Manush’.” Mamta warned that she will not tolerate any kind of coercion on her party’s property.
