Government employees having fun! Dearness allowance will increase by 3% from July, you will get a big gift on Diwali
There is a big and happy news for lakhs of central government employees. The wait of the employees who have been waiting for an increase in their salary and dearness allowance (DA) for a long time is now about to end. The recent Consumer Price Index (CPI-IW) data released by the Labor Bureau has indicated that a huge increase of 3 percent in the DA of employees is almost certain from July.
3 percent increase fixed, inflation increases relief
According to new data released for industrial workers, this index has increased to 150.8 in May, which was 149.9 in April. These inflation figures have a direct connection with the pockets of the employees. According to experts, if we consider the inflation data till May as the basis, then an increase of at least 3 percent in DA from July is certain. Recall that last time the government had increased the DA by 2 percent, due to which the DA increased from 58 percent to 60 percent. Now after this new surge this figure will go even higher.
Mathematics of 8th Pay Commission and Arrears
There is great enthusiasm among the employees regarding the 8th Pay Commission. Experts believe that the recommendations of the new pay commission may be implemented by the end of next year. The good thing is that its benefits will be considered effective from January 2026. When the new pay scale is implemented, employees can get 18 to 24 months of arrears in lump sum. At present, DA for July 2026 will be calculated as per the 7th Pay Commission only and no DA for the first half of this year will be outstanding.
How will the arrears be received and when will it be announced?
If DA is increased in July 2026 and the 8th Pay Commission comes sometime after that, the government will pay the financial difference between the old rates and the revised pay to the employees as ‘arrears’. The central government revises DA twice a year, which usually comes into effect from January 1 and July 1. Although there may be a slight delay in the announcement, the increased amount is always available retrospectively. It is expected that this time the DA revision of July will be formally announced in October around Diwali.
