Tehran. A poet’s controversial remarks during the funeral ceremony of Iran’s late supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei became a topic of discussion. A large number of people attended the ceremony in the capital, Tehran, where the statement, delivered amid political slogans and speeches, attracted international attention.

More people attended the funeral held on Sunday than the day before. Mourners dressed in black reached the venue carrying banners and flags and paid tribute to the departed leader.

During the program, poet Mohammad Rasooli raised slogans against America and Israel in his address. He also made a controversial comment referring to US President Donald Trump, which sparked widespread discussion. Some banners at the event also featured extreme political messages.

Increased importance amid regional situation

according to the report, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who led Iran for decades, was killed in an airstrike on February 28, during the beginning of the war. His age was 86 years.

Analysts believe that this funeral is also being considered an important opportunity to show support towards the theocratic system of the country and the new supreme leader Ayatollah Mujtaba Khamenei.

Talks and security challenges with America

This development comes at a time when Iran is in the process of talks with the US with the aim of permanently ending the war. Additionally, there are concerns regarding the security situation and possible military activities in the area.

The funeral ceremony was delayed due to the war and the talks were also postponed until the funeral was over.
