[Watch] Road Suddenly Cracks Open In Pune, Water Fountain Shoots Out
Pune: Something dramatic and unimaginable happened in Pune’s Talegaon Dabhade on Saturday.
A road suddenly cracked open and water burst out during daytime.
No, it wasn’t caused by an earthquake. As it turned out, the bizarre event occurred during the testing of a new water supply pipeline laid beneath the road as part of the town’s water supply scheme, reported Times Now.
CCTV footage of the episode shows an autorickshaw and a couple of pedestrians passing by when a fountain of water gushes out from the middle of the road, flooding one side. Seconds later, there is another water seepage through a perpendicular crack.
What is worse is the claim that it was a newly-asphalted road!

The pipeline had been laid around a year ago, following which the road was resurfaced with asphalt. The water supply project was scheduled to be inaugurated next week.
Hence, the Talegaon Dabhade Municipal Council was conducting a trial run by releasing water from the newly-constructed storage tank.
The unexpected event left local residents shocked and even scared as they wondered if their buildings could be affected.
An inspection reportedly revealed that it was a lapse on the part of a contractor, who failed to connect two sections of the underground pipeline properly. It was the faulty joint which gave way during the pressure test.
It raised serious questions on the quality of work and efficiency in execution of a civic infrastructure project.
Talegaon Dabhade Municipal Council Chief Officer Girish Dapekar vowed to take action against the contractor responsible for the lapse.
