Talks between Iran and America will be held again in Pakistan, know on which issues consensus has to be reached.
Desk: The next round of talks between America and Iran can once again be held in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. This information was given in the media report on Sunday. Both the countries had signed a memorandum of understanding on June 18 with the aim of restoring peace in West Asia.
After the signing of the MOU between the two countries, technical level talks were held in Switzerland on June 21 under the mediation of Pakistan and Qatar. The newspaper ‘Dawn’ quoted diplomatic sources as saying that resumption of talks is part of efforts to keep the diplomatic process on track and resolve the long-running disputes between the US and Iran.
A diplomatic source said, “There are two possible places for technical talks – Islamabad and Switzerland’s Bergenstock resort. However, the possibility of holding the talks in Islamabad is high. The technical talks are likely to be held on July 11, but the final decision regarding its venue has not been announced yet.
The talks have been temporarily postponed due to events related to the state funeral of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, which will last for several days. Iranian officials have indicated that Tehran’s delegation will be announced after funeral arrangements are completed.
‘Dawn’ quoted diplomatic sources as saying that the talks will focus on Iran’s nuclear programme, relief in sanctions and ‘frozen’ Iranian assets abroad. The purpose of the meeting on July 11 is to take forward the framework set under the MOU ‘Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding’ signed two weeks ago.
In this MoU, both the parties have been given 60 days to reach a comprehensive agreement on Iran’s nuclear program and related issues. Earlier, earlier this week there were indirect talks between the two countries. Donald Trump described the talks as very good, while Iranian officials said the two sides had reached an agreement on releasing some of the billions of dollars of Iranian assets ‘frozen’ abroad.
The most recent high-level talks were held at the Burgenstock resort in Switzerland, which was mediated by Qatar and Pakistan. According to the negotiators, in those talks a framework was prepared to reach a comprehensive agreement related to Iran’s nuclear program, sanctions relief, enhancing maritime security and reducing regional tensions.
