After all, why do prices change daily and how is the price decided?

India imports most of its crude oil needs from other countries, for which payment is made in US dollars. Therefore, whenever crude oil becomes expensive in the international market or the rupee weakens against the dollar, the cost of oil in India increases. Apart from this, excise duty of the central government, VAT of the state governments, cost of refining and the balance of demand and supply together decide the final retail price of petrol and diesel. This is why prices vary due to tax rates in different states.
