PM Modi leaves for Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand tour, know why this trip is important?

New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday left for a six-day official visit to Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand. The visit, which runs from July 6 to 11, aims to further strengthen India’s ‘Act East’ policy, Oceans of the Seas (MAHASAGAR) vision and India’s commitment to a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region. During the visit, many important issues related to trade, investment, defence, technology, maritime security and strategic partnership will be discussed. Apart from this, various agreements and important announcements will also be monitored.

What did the Prime Minister say before leaving?

Before leaving for the visit, Prime Minister Modi said on the social media platform ‘X’ that this visit will be an opportunity to take new heights to economic and strategic cooperation with India’s important development partner countries. He said that the objective of these meetings is to create new opportunities for the youth of India in future and further strengthen bilateral cooperation.

The journey will start from Indonesia

The Prime Minister will start his tour from Indonesia. He will be in Indonesia from July 6 to 8 at the invitation of President Prabowo Subianto. During this, there will be bilateral talks between the two leaders, in which topics like trade, investment, defense cooperation and maritime security will be discussed. The Prime Minister will also meet the Indian community in Indonesia and visit the world famous Prambanan temple complex in Yogyakarta.

India-Australia summit to be held in Melbourne

In the second phase of the visit, Prime Minister Modi will be in Melbourne, Australia from 8 to 10 July. This visit is taking place on the invitation of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. During this period, an annual leaders’ summit will be held between the two countries. There will be special emphasis in the meeting on defense cooperation, trade, clean energy, critical minerals, education and strengthening cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region. Besides, there will also be discussion on increasing cooperation under the Quad group.

Historic trip to New Zealand after four decades

In the last leg of the tour, Prime Minister Modi will visit Auckland, New Zealand from 10 to 11 July. This will be the first official visit of an Indian Prime Minister to New Zealand after nearly 40 years. Here Prime Minister Modi will hold extensive bilateral talks with his New Zealand counterpart Christopher Luxon. The two leaders will review cooperation in various sectors including trade, investment, defence, agriculture, education and technology. This visit assumes special significance after the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) was signed between the two countries this year.

According to experts, this visit of Prime Minister Modi to three countries is considered to further strengthen India’s strategic role in the Indo-Pacific region as well as give a new direction to India’s economic partnership, defense cooperation and active participation on global forums.
