Drug smuggling network busted in Amritsar, three arrested with 13 kg heroin

Amritsar, 06 July (HS). Counter Intelligence (CI) has busted two drug smuggling networks and arrested three persons along with 13 kg of heroin.

Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said that Akashdeep Singh, resident of Khemkaran (Taran Taran), currently living in Kherabad, Amritsar, and Mangal Singh and Baljeet Singh, residents of village Bhodiwala, Moga district, have been arrested. Apart from the recovery of drugs, the police teams have also seized the Hyundai Verna car (UP-14-DL-0324) being used in drug smuggling. DGP Gaurav Yadav said that as per preliminary investigation, the arrested accused used to get consignments of heroin from different places and deliver it to different parties across Punjab.

Sharing the details of the first operation, he said that the police teams of CI Amritsar had received concrete information that a large consignment of heroin had reached Akashdeep. Taking immediate action on this, the police team raided his house in Kherabad, Amritsar and recovered 8 kg of heroin from his possession. He said that in another action, the police had received information that two drug smugglers were going to supply a consignment of heroin in their Verna car. Based on this information, the CI Amritsar team blocked the Amritsar-Jhabal GT Road and stopped the car in which Mangal Singh and Baljeet Singh were traveling. During the search of the vehicle, 5 kg of heroin was recovered from the car.

The DGP said that in both the cases, all the forward and backward links are being thoroughly investigated to identify other accused and expose the entire supply chain. In this regard, two separate cases have been registered in the Police Station State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Amritsar.
