In UP, you will get big benefits on scrapping old buses and trucks, road tax will be waived, help worth lakhs on buying electric vehicles.
The Uttar Pradesh government has approved a new ‘Parivartan Yojana’ to reduce air pollution in the National Capital Region (NCR) and remove old polluting commercial vehicles from the roads. Under this scheme, vehicle owners who deposit old BS-1, BS-2, BS-3 and BS-4 standard trucks and buses at authorized scrapping centers will be given various financial concessions on purchasing new vehicles. The aim of the government is to reduce pollution as well as promote modern and environment-friendly vehicles.
In which districts will the scheme be implemented?
According to the Transport Department, this scheme will currently be implemented in eight districts of NCR region of Uttar Pradesh. These include Meerut, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Hapur, Baghpat and Bulandshahr.
After getting the approval of the Government of India, the state government has decided to implement the scheme in these districts. Expanding its scope can also be considered in future.
You will get full tax exemption on purchasing a new vehicle
The biggest feature of the scheme is that if a vehicle owner buys a new BS-6 or electric vehicle by getting his old vehicle scrapped in an authorized Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF), then he will get 100 percent exemption in motor vehicle tax (road tax).
At the same time, if a person buys an old but BS-6 or electric vehicle, he will get the benefit of 50 percent discount in road tax. This facility will remain effective for the next 10 years.
Registration fee will also be waived
The government has also decided to completely abolish the registration fee for new vehicles purchased under the scheme. This means that eligible vehicle owners will not have to pay any separate registration fee to register a new vehicle.
This will significantly reduce the total cost of purchasing a vehicle and encourage people to replace old polluting vehicles.
Will also get relief from old tax dues
Another big relief has been given under the scheme. If the motor vehicle tax on BS-1 to BS-4 category buses and trucks registered in the NCR region is pending for more than one year, it will also be abolished.
However, this benefit will be available only to those vehicle owners who will buy a new vehicle by depositing their old vehicle at an authorized scrapping centre.
Additional financial assistance will be available on purchasing electric vehicle
The government is also giving additional incentives to promote electric vehicles. Under the scheme, lump sum financial assistance ranging from Rs 64 thousand to Rs 2.56 lakh will be provided depending on the category of vehicle.
Apart from this, vehicle manufacturing companies will also give a discount of up to eight percent on the initial price on the purchase of a new vehicle. At the same time, facilities like interest relief of up to five percent and fuel vouchers will also be provided to those purchasing diesel and CNG vehicles.
What is the objective of the government?
The government believes that smoke emitted from old vehicles is a major cause of air pollution in NCR. In such a situation, phasing out old commercial vehicles and promoting modern BS-6 and electric vehicles will reduce pollution. Besides, fuel efficiency will improve and the transportation sector will also become more modern.
Cabinet approval on ship rules also
Uttar Pradesh Inland Vessels Rules-2026 were also approved in the cabinet meeting. Under this, the vessels operating on the inland waterways of the state will be divided into two categories. The first category will include engine-driven mechanical vessels, while the second category will include traditional and indigenous boats.
The government said that after incorporating the suggestions received from the fishermen community, the rules will be implemented with necessary amendments.
‘Parivartan Yojana’ of Uttar Pradesh government is an important step towards pollution control and promotion of clean transportation. Facilities like exemption in road tax and registration fees, financial assistance on electric vehicles and relief from old tax dues will encourage vehicle owners to replace old polluting vehicles. This is not only expected to improve the air quality of NCR but will also strengthen the environment-friendly transport system in the state.
