Will new league ‘WCC’ start on the lines of IPL? ICC can take these 3 big decisions under the chairmanship of Jay Shah; The whole game will change!
The International Cricket Council (ICC) may soon take some big and tough decisions keeping in mind the future of all three formats of cricket (Test, ODI and T-20). If reports are to be believed, the ICC Annual General Meeting (AGM) is going to be held in Edinburgh, Scotland from 8 to 11 July under the chairmanship of Jay Shah. In this meeting, there can be a serious discussion about starting a new global league on the lines of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Let us know what plans are being made regarding this proposed new league.
World Club Championship (WCC) on the lines of IPL
According to a report in the British newspaper The Guardian, a ‘World Club Championship’ i.e. ‘WCC’ is being considered for T-20 franchise teams around the world. It will be much like the ‘Champions League T-20’, which was played between 2009 and 2014 and in which the champion T-20 teams of different countries took part.
Let us remind you that the old Champions League was started jointly by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Cricket Australia and the South African Cricket Board. However, due to lack of good response from the audience, this league could not be very successful and it had to be closed after only 6 seasons.
Now a blueprint is being prepared to revive a similar new league. However, this proposal is still in its initial stages and no official statement has come from the ICC regarding it. But it is certain that representatives of all the 12 full member countries of ICC will participate in this meeting. In such a situation, it is hoped that this new league can be approved with the mutual consent of all the members.
Fixed window will be made for all three formats!
In this meeting, not only the new league but also discussions can be held on setting a fixed time (fixed window) for all three formats of cricket. For example, there is a proposal that ODI cricket be played only for 18 months immediately before the ODI World Cup, and the rest of the time be reserved for Test and T20 cricket. Apart from this, considering the demands of the changing times, there can be discussion on reducing the overs of ODI matches (short format). At present, cricket fans are waiting for the official announcement of ICC on all these big decisions.
