PM Modi received Indonesia’s highest honour, important agreements signed on defense and strategic cooperation
Knews Desk- Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached the capital Jakarta in the first leg of his Indonesia visit, where he was given a grand welcome. During this, Indonesia honored Prime Minister Modi with the ‘Bintang Adipurna of the Republic of Indonesia’ award, one of the country’s highest honours. This honor was presented by the President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto.
After receiving the honour, Prime Minister Modi called it an honor for crores of citizens of India. He said that this award is a symbol of the age-old historical, cultural and cordial relations between India and Indonesia. The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the Government of Indonesia, President Prabowo Subianto and the people there for this honour. Prime Minister Modi said that the comprehensive strategic partnership between India and Indonesia established in the year 2018 is now moving towards new heights. Both countries are continuously strengthening cooperation in many areas including development, security, technology, culture and education. He expressed confidence that this visit will start a new and golden chapter in the relations between the two countries.
During the visit to Indonesia, important agreements were also signed between India and Indonesia in the defense sector. Both countries signed an agreement related to the supply of BrahMos missiles to the Indonesian Army. This agreement reflects the growing defense cooperation and strategic partnership between the two countries. Prime Minister Modi said that the growing trust between India and Indonesia is further strengthening defence, security and maritime cooperation. Both countries agreed to increase defense exchanges, cooperate in disaster management and pursue industrial partnerships.
He said that India and Indonesia are not just two countries, but partners linked by shared culture, history and maritime links. New opportunities to increase trade, investment, technology and people-to-people contacts between the two countries were also discussed. This visit of Prime Minister Modi is being considered an important step towards strengthening India’s ‘Act East Policy’ and strategic cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region. This visit is expected to give new impetus to political, economic and defense relations between the two countries.
