Great news for government employees! Big update regarding DA, HRA and TA in 8th Pay Commission
New Delhi: Discussions regarding the 8th Pay Commission for Central Government employees and pensioners have intensified. The Commission is considering the suggestions and demands received from various employee organizations. These proposals include many important issues like Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance (TA), Fitment Factor and Family Unit. If some of these major suggestions are accepted, a major change may be seen in the salary structure of the employees.
Many employee organizations say that the current wage structure is not in line with rising inflation and the cost of living in big cities. Therefore, there has been a demand to implement a new system of salaries and allowances in the 8th Pay Commission. Organizations believe that this will provide financial relief to the employees and their purchasing power will improve.
Fitment factor and family unit also discussed
The suggestions given for the 8th Pay Commission also include the proposal to increase the fitment factor and new calculation of family unit for salary determination. Some organizations believe that the salary should be fixed keeping in mind the actual needs of the family. If there is a change in this direction, a significant increase in the basic salary of entry-level employees is possible.
Suggestion to include DA in basic salary
One of the major demands of employee organizations is that when Dearness Allowance (DA) reaches a certain level, it should be included in the basic pay. They argue that this will make future calculations of salary hike, pension and other allowances more beneficial and the effect of inflation will be better compensated.
HRA House Rent Demand for increase in
Many proposals have also come forward regarding House Rent Allowance (HRA). As per the suggestions, HRA rates can be increased for different categories of cities. Some organizations have demanded more HRA for employees in metropolitan cities, while it has been suggested to amend the HRA along with increasing DA in future.
Proposal for change in transport allowance
In view of increasing travel expenses, there has been a demand for amendment in Transport Allowance (TA). Employees’ organizations suggest that the minimum transport allowance should be increased and in future it should be linked to dearness allowance, so that it gets automatically increased from time to time.
How much can the salary increase?
Employee organizations claim that if their major suggestions related to fitment factor, HRA, TA and DA are accepted, then it is possible to increase the total monthly salary of Level-1 employees by about 65 percent. However, this is only a proposed estimate and the final figures will depend on the decision of the government.
No final decision has been taken yet
It is important to note that at present these are all suggestions given by employee organizations. The 8th Pay Commission will study these proposals and prepare its recommendations. After this the Central Government will consider the report and take the final decision. Therefore, any possible increase in DA, HRA, TA, fitment factor or salary increase cannot be considered final yet.
