Nature’s fierce form in China: ‘Bavi’ and ‘Mesak’ storms wreak havoc
China is currently facing the most destructive form of nature. In many parts of the country, monsoon rains, cyclonic storms and storms ‘Baavi’ and ‘Mesak’ have created such an uproar that otherwise cheerful areas have turned into a sea of debris and water. From north-western China to southern parts, scenes of devastation are visible everywhere. Around 7:00 am on Tuesday, when people were in deep sleep, a huge chunk of mud and debris fell on the residential area in Nanhe area under Longnan city of Gansu and Tanchang county. Due to this massive landslide, the entire village turned into a heap of debris and 33 people were buried alive. According to Chinese state media ‘CCTV’ and ‘Xinhua’, emergency teams acted quickly and rescued 17 people from the debris, while rescue operations are continuing on a war footing to search for the 16 missing people. The entire affected area has been evacuated for safety reasons. Tornado havoc in Hubei: Roofs blown in the air, more than 275 injured The second front of devastation opened in Hubei province of central China, where a violent tornado has caused huge devastation. 8 people died due to this cyclone in Huangzhu district of Huanggang, while more than 275 people were seriously injured. The speed of the strong winds was so terrible that roofs of houses were blown away, electric poles fell and big trees were uprooted. Showing promptness, the administration has shifted 408 citizens to safe camps. Double attack of ‘Maysak’ storm in Guangxi province: Concrete dams broken. Southern China’s Guangxi province is currently in the grip of catastrophic floods caused by Tropical Storm ‘Maysak’. Due to torrential rains, the water pressure in the reservoirs increased so much that the strong concrete dams collapsed like a deck of cards. The rivers are in spate in Fengchengang city and a dreadful wave of muddy water is engulfing the settlements. So far, 2 people have been confirmed dead due to this flood and storm, while more than 48,000 people have been displaced. According to the report, a total population of more than 55,000 has been directly affected by this disaster.
