Question papers went missing before the exam, the university canceled the exam out of compulsion.

A shocking case of question paper theft has come to light just before the examination in Madhya Pradesh’s Rajiv Gandhi Technological University (RGPV). Hours before the start of the computer examination for second year postgraduate (PG) students, the university administration was forced to cancel the examination after nine sealed question paper packets were found missing. This exam, which was to be held on Friday at 11 am, has now been postponed till further notice. This incident has raised serious questions on the security arrangements and examination system of the university.

 

According to the university administration, the theft took place on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday at the examination center of the School of Biotechnology. When officials reached the center in the morning, a window was found broken and sealed packets of question papers were missing. As soon as information about the incident was received, there was panic and the students were informed about the cancellation of the exam.

Sealed question papers stolen by breaking window

Initial investigation has revealed that the thieves entered the examination center by breaking the window and escaped with nine packets of question papers kept in sealed envelopes. Some items were also found scattered from the spot. After the incident, the university administration immediately informed the police. Gandhinagar police station has registered the case and started investigation and the footage of CCTV cameras installed nearby is also being scrutinized.

RGPV Vice Chancellor issued show cause notice

RGPV Vice Chancellor Alok Sharma said that as soon as the information was received, he reached the examination center and took stock of the situation. After this he issued a show cause notice to Archana Tiwari, Director of School of Biotechnology and Controller of PG Examination. Both the officers have been instructed to give written explanations within three days. Besides, the process of constituting a special committee to investigate the entire matter has also been started.

Vice Chancellor Alok Sharma says that this does not just seem like a normal incident of theft, but could be a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the university and the state. He said that if any negligence of any employee or officer is revealed in the investigation, then strict action will be taken against him.
