New toll tax rules implemented in Bihar, know how much will be charged on which road
Patna. A major change related to toll tax has been implemented for the drivers in Bihar. Implementing the new toll policy, the state government has decided to collect toll tax on state highways, major bridges, bypasses and tunnels. The objective of the new system is said to be to mobilize resources for maintenance of road projects and better transport facilities.
Toll will be decided on the basis of road width
Under the new system, toll tax will now be taken according to the width of the road. On roads with four lanes or wider, the full prescribed rate will have to be paid. At the same time, toll will be charged at a lower percentage on roads wider than two lanes but less than four lanes. Separate rates have also been fixed for 5.5 meter wide roads. The government will soon release the list of roads and bridges where this system will be implemented.
Different way to decide fee on bridges
In the new policy, a separate calculation system has been adopted for bridges. While calculating the toll, not only the distance of the road but also the length of the bridge will be added under a special formula. Due to this, the toll amount for vehicles passing on long bridges may be higher than on normal roads.
These vehicles will get relief
Under the new policy, some categories of vehicles have been exempted from toll tax. These include two-wheelers, three-wheelers, tractors, combine harvesters and animal-drawn vehicles. However, as per the rules, different provisions may apply to these vehicles in certain special circumstances.
Payment will be made through Fastag
Emphasis has been laid on keeping the payment process completely digital at toll plazas. Toll amount will be collected from vehicle drivers through Fastag or other electronic payment system. Vehicles without FASTag or overloaded vehicles may be charged additional fees. Passes and concessional schemes will also be arranged for vehicle owners who travel regularly.
