Amidst the news of toll tax being implemented on the roads under the state government, Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary has completely clarified the situation. He has made a big announcement saying that no toll tax will be collected from any private car, jeep or private vehicle plying on the state highway of Bihar. This decision of the government has brought great relief to those people who travel in private vehicles with their families.
Chief Minister cleared all kinds of confusion
For the last few days, many types of discussions were going on among the general public regarding toll tax. Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary himself came forward to clear this confusion. While addressing the public during a cooperation camp program organized in Haripur, Araria on Tuesday, he made it clear that no citizen needs to worry about toll tax. He said that the entire system will be made as per the standards of the Central Government, but in order to provide relief to its people, the Bihar Government has decided to keep private vehicles out of the scope of this tax. People who travel in their personal vehicles will be able to travel without any extra charges.
Approval was given in the cabinet meeting
Let us tell you that last week an important cabinet meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary. In this meeting, ‘Road User Fee (Determination and Collection of Rates) Rules, 2026’ was approved. After the passing of this new rule, it became clear that now the way has been cleared for imposing toll tax on the state highways of Bihar. Till now, the people of Bihar had to pay toll tax only on the national highways, which come under the central government. But after this new rule, now toll plazas will be seen on selected roads under the state government.
Fee will be charged only from commercial vehicles
The Chief Minister has also made it clear in his statement that the government will collect toll only from commercial vehicles. According to the new rules issued by the government, rates have also been fixed for different commercial vehicles. Under this, the rate of Rs 1.25 per kilometer has been fixed for taxi, commercial car and jeep. Whereas for big vehicles like buses and trucks, this rate will be six rupees sixty-five paise per kilometer. Apart from this, toll will be charged at the rate of eight rupees ten paise per kilometer for very big commercial vehicles and trailers. The government has also made a rule that if a vehicle is driven with more load than the prescribed limit, then apart from the prescribed toll, additional fine will also be charged.

Dates yet to be announced
However, it will take some time for this system to be fully implemented in Bihar. The government is currently surveying which toll plazas should be built on which state highways. For your information, let us tell you that the entire network of state highways in Bihar is about three thousand six hundred fourteen kilometers long. Most of these roads are two-lane. No definite date has been announced yet by the government to start toll collection. The department will first assess the condition of all the roads and only then the process of toll collection will be started in a phased manner.
The general public got great relief
With this decision of the government, the middle class people of Bihar and people who own private vehicles have heaved a sigh of relief. If this tax was imposed on private vehicles also, it would have a direct impact on the pockets of working people and common people who travel daily. After this big announcement of the Chief Minister, it is now completely certain that private car owners will not have to empty their pockets while traveling on the state highway. The entire focus of the government is now on collecting tax as per rules only from commercial vehicles, so that the revenue of the state can be increased and the roads can be maintained in a better way.
