Actually, ICC has taken strict action against the players of West Indies team due to slow over rate in the second test. ICC has imposed a fine of 10 percent of the match fee on West Indies players and also deducted 2 points from the points table of the World Test Championship (WTC). This case pertains to the second Test match played between West Indies and Sri Lanka at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua. This second match was a draw, on the basis of which West Indies won the 2-match series 1-0. However, even after this historic victory, the West Indies team had to suffer a big loss.
ICC deducted 2 points from West Indies in WTC
ICC Elite Panel match referee Javagal Srinath, after taking into account the time allowance, found that the West Indies team was 2 overs behind the stipulated over rate. After this, action has been taken against West Indies under ICC rules. According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, players are fined 5 percent of their match fees if a team bowls one over less than the stipulated time. Since the West Indies team was 2 overs behind the scheduled time, a total fine of 10 percent was imposed on the players’ match fees.

West Indies’ point deducted due to slow over rate
Under Rule 16.11.2 of the World Test Championship (WTC), one point is deducted from the team for every over falling behind the prescribed over rate. Under this rule, 2 WTC points have been deducted from West Indies. Even after deducting 2 points, the West Indies team remains at 8th position in the WTC points table, but the team has suffered a loss in points percentage. Due to this cut, the PCT of West Indies has come down to 15.00.

West Indies captain admitted his mistake
West Indies captain Roston Chase has accepted the punishment given by the ICC, admitting the mistake of slow over rate, due to which there was no need for any formal hearing in this matter. On-field umpires Paul Rifle and Ahsan Raza, third umpire Sharafuddaula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Dighton Butler had accused West Indies of slow over rate. After this, match referee Javagal Srinath found him guilty and gave the final verdict.

West Indies succeeded in winning the test series from Sri Lanka after 23 years
