Heavy rain wreaks havoc in Pune: Building collapsed due to falling of garbage in Pimpri-Chinchwad, 16 people feared buried.
Pune: The rains are not stopping in Pune and its surrounding areas of Maharashtra. Amidst the continuous torrential rains, news of a major accident is coming from Moshi area of Pimpri-Chinchwad. Here a building suddenly collapsed, due to which at least 16 people are feared trapped under the debris. As soon as the information about the accident was received, the teams of fire brigade, local police and relief team immediately reached the spot. Rescue operations are being carried out on a war footing at the site and several ambulances have been deployed at the spot to immediately send the injured people being pulled out from the debris to nearby hospitals for treatment.

According to Municipal Corporation and senior police officials, this accident happened near Moshi Garbage Depot. According to initial information, due to heavy rains for the last few days, a huge mountain-like pile of garbage slipped and fell directly on the building. The building could not withstand the heavy pressure of garbage and collapsed. For security reasons, the administration has currently cordoned off the entire area and senior officials themselves are reaching the spot and taking stock of the situation.
Apart from this accident, continuous torrential rains in Pune city and industrial and residential areas of Pimpri-Chinchwad have completely derailed normal life. Water has started filling in the low-lying areas of the city, creating a flood-like situation. Due to accumulation of water on the main roads, there is a traffic jam several kilometers long, due to which the employees working in the industrial areas of Pimpri-Chinchwad and the general public are facing huge problems in transportation. The administration has appealed to the people not to leave their homes without any essential work.
