Kolkata: Tensions flared in Kolkata on Wednesday as TMC and BJP workers clashed during a TMC rally in the city, prompting police and central forces to intervene to bring the situation under control.
According to eyewitnesses, arguments broke out when the TMC procession was passing through an area where BJP workers had gathered. The confrontation soon turned into a scuffle, with both sides raising slogans and throwing objects at each other. Kolkata Police rushed to the spot along with personnel from central forces deployed in the city. They formed barricades and separated the two groups to prevent further escalation. Several workers sustained minor injuries in the clash.
Senior officers said the situation is now under control and additional security has been deployed in sensitive areas. Both parties have accused each other of provocation.
