Arvind Kejriwal again attacks on E20 petrol, sends letter to 29 companies; Said- reply within a week
Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has intensified his attack against the central government on the issue of E20 ethanol blended petrol. After appealing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday to reconsider this decision, he made a big claim in a press conference on Wednesday. Kejriwal said that he has written a letter to 29 automobile companies of the country asking whether E20 petrol is safe for old cars and other vehicles. He says that a clear answer has been sought from the companies on this subject so that the situation can be clear to the vehicle owners. He told that separate letters have been sent to Maruti Suzuki, Toyota and Hero. These three companies have also been asked two special questions related to the compatibility of E20 petrol and its impact on old vehicles.
During the press conference, Arvind Kejriwal said that the letters to the 29 automobile companies to which he had asked to write had been sent or were being sent at the time of the press conference. He told that separate letters have been written to Maruti Suzuki, Hero and Toyota. According to Kejriwal, these three companies had said in the press conference on July 4 that the use of E20 ethanol mixed petrol in old vehicles is safe, although it may reduce the mileage by 4 to 5 percent. On the basis of this statement, he has sought separate detailed answers and clarifications from these companies.
Kejriwal told the subject of the letters
Arvind Kejriwal said that his public statement of July 4 has been mentioned in the letters sent to Maruti Suzuki, Hero and Toyota. He said that these companies had claimed that the use of E20 petrol in old vehicles is safe and it reduces the mileage by only 4–5 percent. Kejriwal says that on the other hand, it is mentioned in the vehicle manuals of these companies that the use of petrol mixed with more than 10 percent ethanol (E10) in old vehicles is not advised. He said there appears to be a contradiction between the companies’ public statements and the information recorded in the vehicle manual. On this basis, he has asked the companies to clarify publicly whether the use of E20 petrol in old vehicles is really safe. Also asked that if it is safe, then why is different information given in their publicly available vehicle manuals.
Ask 2 important questions to auto companies
Arvind Kejriwal said that he has raised two important questions in the letters sent to Maruti Suzuki, Hero and Toyota. He said that the first question is that if the loss of a vehicle due to the use of E20 petrol is more than 4–5 percent, will the concerned auto company take the responsibility of compensating it. The second question is that if the use of E20 fuel causes damage to a consumer’s vehicle, will the company provide compensation to the affected vehicle owner. Kejriwal said that he has specifically sought clear answers to these two questions from these three companies.
Answer sought from 26 auto companies within a week
Arvind Kejriwal said that apart from Maruti Suzuki, Hero and Toyota, letters have also been sent to 26 other automobile companies. These companies have been asked whether E20 petrol can be safely used in the vehicles manufactured by them. He has also been asked to clarify his official stand on this issue. Kejriwal has also asked that if any consumer suffers harm due to the use of E20 fuel in his company’s vehicle, will the company take responsibility for compensating him. He said that this matter is related to crores of vehicle owners and is very sensitive. For this reason, all companies have been requested to answer these questions within a week.
Will know people’s opinion on E20
Arvind Kejriwal said that his party will go among the public on the issue of E20 petrol and will directly talk to the vehicle owners to know their problems and experiences. He alleged that the central government is firm on its stand on this issue and is not ready to accept that people are facing any kind of problem. Kejriwal said that his party will ask people whether they have faced any loss or problem due to the use of E20 fuel. Taking aim at the BJP, he said that when the public expresses its views, it should not be ignored. According to him, if people are worried about any policy, it is the responsibility of the government to listen to them and address their concerns.
