BSNL Satellite Phone: This phone will connect directly to the sky without SIM and mobile tower, price ₹ 1.34 lakh; Know the rules before buying

Can you imagine that in today’s era of 5G and AI, there can be a phone which costs more than ₹ 1.34 lakh, but has neither a gleaming AMOLED display nor a high-resolution camera? India’s government telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has brought one such unique phone. The most surprising thing is that neither any SIM card nor any mobile tower is required to keep this phone working or to talk. The network of this device is directly connected to the satellite present in space, which is specially designed for emergency and critical communication. With a hefty price tag of ₹1.34 lakh and Inmarsat technology, this is not a common smartphone that any common man would buy. Including tax (GST), the price of this special handset has been fixed at ₹ 1,34,166. This is an ‘Inmarsat’ (Inmarsat) satellite phone. It has been designed for those difficult conditions and inaccessible areas, where there is no trace of traditional mobile terrestrial networks. Through this phone, direct and clear voice calling can be made even from the most backward, dense forests, deep sea or high mountainous areas of the country. This device is made for these sectors and VIP operations. BSNL has made it clear in its official announcement that this phone is not for regular use by the general public. This device will be used mainly in the following areas: Defense and Security Agencies: Army and Border Security Force personnel. Maritime Operations: Crew members of merchant navy and ships deployed on the high seas. Disaster Response: For relief operations when mobile towers collapse during floods, earthquakes or cyclones. Mining and industrial sites: Engineers working deep underground or in remote locations. Adventure travelers and mountaineers: People going for high-altitude trekking and risk zones. Special Features and Strong Build for Tough Conditions Despite being expensive, this phone comes with extremely durable and rugged finishing: Direct Satellite Voice Calling: Facility to talk using signal directly from the sky without any cellular network. Dedicated SOS Emergency Support: It has a dedicated SOS button to call for immediate help in case of any major crisis or emergency. Ultra Strong Body: It is designed to withstand extreme hot, snowy, sandy and harsh weather conditions without getting damaged. Powerful Battery Backup: It has a long lasting battery to remain on standby for many days in areas where electricity is unavailable. Can a common man buy this phone? Know the legal rules. If you are thinking that it can be purchased from any e-commerce website or mobile shop, then it is not so at all. In India, possessing a satellite phone or using it without permission is completely illegal and doing so can lead to serious legal action. To buy it, customers will first have to obtain written permission and authorization letter from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). Only after this, customers can contact their nearest BSNL office and give valid reasons to buy this phone officially for ₹ 1,34,166.
