Why is BJP avoiding alliance with JDU in UP? Know what is political compulsion
Janata Dal (United), the most trusted ally of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Bihar, is also preparing to contest the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2027 with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The party has started its preparations for about 25 seats by activating the organization in the state. The biggest question is that when BJP and JDU are running the government together in Bihar, then why is there no electoral alliance between the two parties in Uttar Pradesh? According to political experts, the biggest reason for this is the caste politics of Uttar Pradesh, pressure from allies and the already prepared social strategy of BJP.
Even before the 2022 assembly elections, JDU had tried its best for an alliance with BJP but could not agree on seat sharing. After this, the party contested elections alone on 20 seats but could not win even a single seat. Most of the candidates could not even save their deposits. This is the reason why this time JDU wants to contest elections with NDA instead of contesting elections alone.
JDU is busy strengthening its organization on 25 seats
Uttar Pradesh in-charge and Rural Development Minister of Bihar Government, Shravan Kumar is continuously visiting the state. The party is running a membership campaign and is claiming to strengthen the organization on about 25 seats in the districts bordering Purvanchal and Bihar. JDU says that its first priority is alliance with BJP.

Kurmi vote bank became the biggest factor
The number of Kurmi voters in Uttar Pradesh is considered to be around six percent. This vote bank remains in a position to decide victory and defeat in many assembly seats of Purvanchal, Prayagraj and Central UP. JDU’s politics has also been based on the Kurmi identity of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. For this reason, the party is searching for its political ground in Uttar Pradesh also on the same social basis.
Political analysts believe that BJP is already in alliance with Apna Dal (S), whose core base is also the Kurmi community. Apart from this, BJP has also strengthened the OBC and Kurmi leadership in the state organization. In such a situation, if JDU is given seats, it will have a direct impact on the share of the old allies. BJP wants to avoid taking such a risk without clear electoral gains.
JDU’s special eye on Purvanchal
JDU considers about 38 assembly seats of Purvanchal adjoining Bihar as its biggest political potential. These areas have social, linguistic and family ties with Bihar. This is why the party’s entire focus is on expanding its organization in Purvanchal and it wants to make its electoral debut from this region.

Seat distribution is not easy for BJP
Political experts say that BJP is already maintaining electoral coordination with many allies in Uttar Pradesh. If JDU is included, a new distribution of seats will have to be done, which may create dissatisfaction among the allies. This is the reason why BJP is taking every step keeping in mind political profit and loss.
BJP leaders say that the decision on alliance and seat sharing in Uttar Pradesh will be taken by the central leadership. If BJP feels that it will get electoral benefit by taking JDU along, then only the picture of the alliance will be clear. Otherwise, like in 2022, JDU may again have to contest elections alone. At present, the answer to whether NDA will expand in Uttar Pradesh before the 2027 elections or not will be decided by the political talks to be held in the coming months.
