Bihar government’s big announcement regarding ration cards, 1 crore new cards will be issued
Patna: In the interest of the people of Bihar, Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary has announced to make one crore new ration cards. Let us tell you, this decision was taken by the Chief Minister during the meeting held with Union Minister Prahlad Joshi on Thursday, July 9, 2026 at ‘Sankalp’ auditorium located at Lok Sevak Awas, Patna. Along with this, a complete review of the schemes of food and public distribution system was done in the meeting.
CM clearly said that the department will have to create a strong database so that the benefits of the schemes reach the eligible people in the right and timely manner. A plan has been made to further strengthen the ration distribution and storage system by linking it with technology.
Target to make one crore new cards
However, the issue of issuing new ration cards was most important in the meeting. The Chief Minister directed the officials that the work of making one crore new ration cards should be completed as soon as possible. He said that the department should have updated and comprehensive data of beneficiaries of all the schemes. This will stop fraud and the real owner will get his right without any delay. Along with this, the CM stressed that transparency and timeliness should be the priority of this entire campaign.
Discussion on smart warehouse and ‘meaningful PDS’
The implementation of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana was also reviewed in the meeting. During this period, special emphasis has been laid on modernizing food grain storage. The Chief Minister has given instructions to develop smart warehouse in the state. He said that now warehouses should not be just store rooms, but full care should be taken of safety, quality and maintenance there.
The ‘Sarthak PDS’ model of the Central Government was also discussed in detail in the meeting. Necessary instructions were given to the officials regarding its module, technical structure and cost sharing. CM said that Bihar’s online PDS system is already good, it should be further strengthened.
Focus on basic facilities
The Chief Minister has asked the officials to regularly monitor the distribution of ration. Instructed that every eligible beneficiary should get grains with respect and without any hassle. Along with this, it has been asked to immediately provide electricity and other basic facilities in all the food grain warehouses of the state. Orders were also given to pay special attention to the security and maintenance of the warehouses, so that the grains do not get spoiled and can be kept safe.
At the end of the meeting, CM Samrat Chaudhary expressed his gratitude to Union Minister Prahlad Joshi. He said that based on the suggestions received from the Centre, the departments are making efforts to achieve all the targets by making rapid coordination. The Union Minister has also expressed confidence of every possible cooperation for the progress of Bihar.
