Delhi-NCR affected due to heavy rains, sea like scene on the roads, traffic slowed down

New Delhi: At present, the most extreme and destructive form of monsoon is being seen in India. Continuous torrential rains in the states of Western India, especially Maharashtra and Gujarat, have completely disrupted normal life. Rivers are in spate and rain drains are overflowing and entering residential areas. Due to which a serious situation like flood has arisen in the low-lying areas. In many markets, even inside the shops have been flooded, due to which schools and colleges have had to be closed for safety reasons. Amidst this devastation, now heavy monsoon rains have started becoming a disaster in North India also.

office goers are in trouble

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a ‘red alert’ in view of the severe weather conditions in the country’s capital Delhi and its neighboring state Haryana. According to meteorologists, there is a strong possibility of strong winds at a speed of 40 to 60 kilometers per hour and extremely heavy rain in these areas within the next 24 to 48 hours. Long queues of vehicles have formed near Akshardham Temple on National Highway 24. The creeping of vehicles on the Delhi-Gurugram border near Ambience Mall is revealing the reality of the administrative claims. Main roads in different areas of Noida, Faridabad and Ghaziabad are also submerged in water.

Delhi-NCR roads become ponds

Due to continuous rains in the National Capital Region (NCR), the problem of waterlogging and severe traffic jams has arisen. Working people who set out for their work and office early in the morning have to struggle on the roads for hours. The speed of vehicles has completely stopped on the busiest routes of Delhi like ITO, Anand Vihar, Karol Bagh, Connaught Place, Rajiv Chowk, Botanical Garden and DND flyover.

Drainage system of Cyber City Gurugram completely failed

Gurugram, which is called the high-tech ‘cyber city’ of the country, looked completely helpless in this monsoon rain. The main roads of Gurugram have turned into rivers and the water level is so high that many cars drowned in the middle of the road and stopped. The road leading from Hero Honda Chowk to Subhash Chowk is filled with knee-deep water. Local residents say that like every year, this time too the city is in the same old condition. Due to poor system of drains and drainage, blockage of old concrete drains with garbage and not repairing the drainage system on time, flood like situations arise even in small rains.

Paper claims flow in Ghaziabad, main roads submerged

In Ghaziabad too, the first heavy rain of monsoon has exposed the preparations of the Municipal Corporation. The officials who made tall claims about prompt cleaning of drains and drainage before the arrival of monsoon have been completely exposed in this rain. The situation is worst on the most important and busy route connecting the railway station with Noida, Trans Hindon and Indirapuram. Within a few hours of rain, so much water accumulated on the entire road that more than half of the wheels of vehicles passing through it got submerged. Crossing the road has become a dangerous task for pedestrians. The direct allegation of the people is that the Municipal Corporation showed complete preparations only in files and meetings, but no concrete work was done at the ground level.

Crisis in the mountains of Uttarakhand

Monsoon continues to affect the plains as well as the mountains. The Meteorological Department has issued ‘Orange Alert’ for Uttarakhand. It has been raining intermittently since late night in many parts of the state including the capital Dehradun. In view of the sensitivity of the weather, local administration has been put on alert mode in all the districts. In view of the possibility of heavy rains and landslides, holiday has been declared in all schools of Dehradun and Nainital districts as a precautionary measure.

Rain stopped in Vasai-Virar of Maharashtra

On the other hand, in the Vasai-Virar area adjacent to Mumbai in Maharashtra, western India, although there has been some respite from the rain and the process of rain has stopped, the havoc of the torrential rains of the last several days can still be clearly seen. Due to no proper drainage system in low-lying areas, residential societies and roads are still submerged.

but difficulties persist

Vasai’s areas like Diwanman, Navyug Nagar, C Colony, Gokul Angan, Krishna Township and Chulna Road still have huge amount of dirty water accumulated in them. Hundreds of people have suffered huge loss of household items, electronics and ration due to flood water entering their homes. Due to lack of water, the risk of epidemic spreading has increased. Apart from this, there has been power outage in many areas for the last several hours, due to which the local people are facing extremely difficult situations for charging mobiles, arranging clean drinking water and other daily needs.
