8-meter-high LEGO replica of World Cup trophy attracts visitors to NYC’s Rockefeller Plaza

Hundreds of people visited Rockefeller Plaza in New York City on Wednesday to take pictures of an eight-meter replica of the FIFA World Cup trophy installed at the heart of the square.

Footage shows the replica, as well as Lego statues of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Vinicius Jr., along with people walking through Rockefeller Plaza.

“That’s the largest Lego statue I’ve ever seen for the World Cup, and it’s not as ugly as the original World Cup statue or trophy, or whatever it is,” said one local.

One visitor said she liked the idea because it brought the city’s community together, while another said the replica would be loved by children.

“I’m not a kid, but I love this one, and if I love it, the kids are gonna go crazy for it,” he said.

According to local media reports, the replica was built over eight months at the Lego Group’s model production facility in Kladno, Czech Republic, by a team of 59 people, including designers, engineers, model builders and assembly technicians.

It is reported that more than 1.3 million Lego bricks were used to create the replica.
