Emphasis on increasing domestic production
The government has completely abolished basic duty to boost domestic production. Now the materials used to make display assemblies, lithium-ion cells and inductor coil modules will become cheaper. This discount will be valid till March 31, 2029. Through this, the government wants to increase the production of electronics in the country and reduce the cost of the companies. So far India has been largely dependent on China and Vietnam for display assembly and lithium-ion cells etc. Now the government has taken this decision to reduce this dependency. This will help to increase domestic production and reduce dependence on other countries.
Smartphones, laptops, smart TVs can become cheaper
The display assembly and lithium-ion form a large part of the total cost of any smartphone, laptop and SmartTV. Earlier, 5 to 7.5 percent basic customs duty was levied on this. But now that the central government has decided to remove the basic customs duty, it will be cheaper for the companies to purchase the material. This will reduce their cost of production. To pass on this benefit to consumers, companies can offer devices such as laptops, smartphones and smart TVs made in India at lower prices.

The prices of smartphones and laptops are constantly increasing
The AI boom has led to a shortage of storage and memory chips. Low supply and rising demand have caused prices of storage and memory chips to skyrocket. This is affecting the price of smartphones and laptops and the prices of these devices are also increasing continuously. That’s why companies from Apple to Samsung and Lenovo to Dell are increasing the prices of their smartphones, laptops and smart TVs. Now, after the Indian government’s decision, there is hope that at least the devices made in India will become cheaper.
