Features of Awiqli Injection

Recently, Novo Nordisk company has introduced a new insulin injection called Awiqli. Its specialty is that it has to be taken only once a week. This injection is available in pens of 700 units and 2100 units.

The price of a 700 unit pen is Rs 2,611, while the price of a 2100 unit pen is Rs 7,883. The one-time cost of an injection of 700 units is Rs 261. A typical person requires 70 units of insulin per week, making this injection cheaper than other options.


Cost of daily insulin injections

Daily insulin injections are available in different categories in the market. Their price and effects vary.

Rapid Acting Insulin: It is taken before food and its effect lasts for 3 to 5 hours. For example, Humalog 100IU Kwikpen is priced at Rs 1,260. The price of one unit is Rs 4.2, making 70 units in a week cost around Rs 294.

Short acting insulin: It has to be taken 30 minutes before food and its effect lasts for 5 to 8 hours. The one-time cost of Huminsulin R 100IU is Rs 312.84.

Intermediate acting insulin: It works slowly and its effect lasts for 4 to 12 hours.

Long Acting Insulin: Its effect lasts for 24 hours and it helps in controlling blood sugar.

Typically, people take two types of insulin. One costs Rs 700 and lasts for 15 days, while the other costs Rs 1,900 and lasts for a month. Overall, these cost Rs 3,300, while Awiqli’s monthly expenses are only Rs 1,044.
