New Delhi. Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina is considering returning to her country. In a telephonic conversation with news agency Reuters, Sheikh Hasina said that she would return to Bangladesh around December. Although she expressed apprehension about the danger to her life, she would still go back to her homeland. Sheikh Hasina said that I know that as soon as I reach Bangladesh, I can be arrested, I can even be killed, but still I will have to return. Hasina said that I will surrender before the court in Bangladesh.

Hasina said emotionally that I want that if I die, it should come on my own soil, where my parents are buried and where their blood was shed. The former PM said that the leaders and workers of my party Awami League are facing heavy repression there. Hasina said that I want to see how the Bangladesh Nationalist Party government behaves with its staunchest rival. Let us tell you that Sheikh Hasina was sentenced to death by the International Crime Tribunal of Bangladesh in her absence in November last year. He has been sentenced to death after finding him guilty of opening fire on unarmed civilians during last year’s rebellion.

Sheikh Hasina’s party Awami League has been banned in Bangladesh. Due to this, Awami League could not participate in the last general elections. After protests against Sheikh Hasina’s government, a coup took place on 5 April 2024 and Sheikh Hasina had to flee Bangladesh to save her life. Sheikh Hasina had appealed to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for help, after which the Modi government gave her asylum in India. Since then Sheikh Hasina is in India.
