CM Vijay’s big attack on Karur stampede: “I trusted the police, but the entire blame was placed on me”

During his visit to Karur, he met the police administration and the opposition. Chief Minister Vijay said that the Karur stampede is one of the most painful moments of his life and the incident still shakes him to the core.
“If there was danger then why didn’t you stop me?”
Addressing the public meeting, Vijay said that when he had reached Karur, the police had full rights to stop the rally.
He said,
“I trusted the police. If the conditions were not right, I could have been stopped from entering the city. The meeting could have been cancelled, but that was not done. I was allowed to proceed and later the entire responsibility was put on me.”
He raised the question that if the administration was apprehensive about the crowd, then why adequate security arrangements were not made.
DMK accused of political conspiracy
Chief Minister Vijay also targeted the opposition DMK in his address. He alleged that an attempt was made to take political advantage after the stampede incident.
He said that when he was mentally broken by this tragedy, his opponents made an issue of his silence and made continuous political attacks on him.
Vijay claimed that an attempt was made to defame him over this entire incident and an attempt was made to take political advantage.
“Can’t forget the death of 41 people even today”
The Chief Minister said the death of 41 people, including many children, in the Karur stampede was deeply saddening for him personally.
He said that human life is more important than success in any public life and the pain of this accident will always remain with him.
Controversy over the decision to give government job
Meanwhile, controversy has also arisen over the decision of Tamil Nadu government to give government jobs to the families of 41 people who lost their lives in the stampede.
The DMK alleged that the decision could influence witnesses before the investigation is completed. The party had earlier approached the Supreme Court regarding this issue.
However, the Supreme Court raised questions on the petition and said that the Chief Minister is not an accused in any case and the court will not interfere in the policy decision process of the government. After this DMK withdrew its petition.
High Court also gave relief
The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court also refused to interfere in the government’s decision. The court said that giving government jobs to the victim families is a policy decision of the state government.
However, the court also clarified that the appointments will remain temporary for the time being and the final decision will be subject to the decision of the court.
