Athens/Berlin. An incident of window breaking has come to light during the flight of Ryanair’s Boeing 737 aircraft going from Greece to Germany. A 61-year-old passenger sitting near the window was injured in the accident.
The airline confirmed the incident and said the plane landed safely back at the airport while the cause of the window breakage is being investigated.
According to media reports, the incident occurred on Friday on flight FR1879 from Thessaloniki, Greece, to Memmingen, Germany, which was being operated by Malta Air on behalf of Ryanair.
It is being told that the plane faced a technical problem shortly after take-off. Some media reports claimed that a piece of debris ejected from the engine hit the aircraft’s fuselage and damaged a cabin window.
According to reports, the 61-year-old passenger from Serbia, who was sitting near the window, suffered injuries due to the strong wind and pressure changes. After the plane landed, he was admitted to the hospital in a state of shock.
It is reported that he was wearing a seat belt, due to which he did not fall out of the plane. Reports also claimed that his wife held his legs and he was pulled inside safely with the help of other passengers.
There was chaos in the cabin of the plane after the incident. The damaged window is visible in the viral video on social media. Some reports also say that the oxygen masks came down automatically due to low cabin pressure.
Ryanair said in a statement that the flight from Thessaloniki to Memmingen on Friday morning returned safely to Thessaloniki after the passenger window was broken shortly after take-off.
The airline arranged for alternative flights for the affected passengers and said the cause of the incident was being investigated.
Aircraft manufacturer Boeing also confirmed that it was aware of the incident and said that it is in touch with Ryanair. At present, the actual reasons for the window breaking have not been officially confirmed and the investigation into the matter is ongoing.
