E20 Petrol Causes 25% Mileage Drop In A 14 Year Old Non E20 Compliant Car [Video]
No matter how many times it has been reported by the general public about the mileage loss in their vehicles due to E20 petrol, the Government of India has been saying that there is only a negligible drop in mileage. Now, once again proving that this loss of mileage is not negligible, a video has been shared online. In this video, a vlogger drives his old Hyundai i20 with two litres each of E20 and E0 and checks the mileage, and the results will shock you.
The video of the mileage comparison with E20 and E0 petrol has been shared on YouTube by Krish Thakor on their channel. It starts off with the vlogger mentioning that he will be testing and comparing the mileage which the 14-year-old 2012 Hyundai i20 provides with the different fuels. He highlights that his car has the 1.4-litre Gamma naturally aspirated petrol engine, which makes 99 bhp and 136 Nm of torque.
Soon after this, he explains that they will be using two litres each of E20 and E0 petrol and will be using it to test the mileage offered on the highway. Following this explanation, he then starts driving his car on the highway to empty the existing fuel from the vehicle. After the vehicle completely stops and does not start again, they open the fuel filler and add the E20 petrol.
Next up, he tries to start the vehicle, but it does not start immediately. So his friends had to push the vehicle to jump-start it, after which it starts, and they start driving it. He then mentions that he did the same experiment with the Tata Altroz Racer, which has a turbo petrol engine, and the results of the drop in mileage were significant. However, he believes that the Hyundai i20 should offer better petrol mileage because it has a naturally aspirated petrol engine.
Following which, the vehicle then stops, and he starts calculating the mileage offered by the vehicle. He mentions that the vehicle now has an odometer reading of 87,315 km, which means it has driven 27 km as the start was done at 87,288 km. So, the mileage offered by the 14-year-old non-E20-compliant Hyundai i20 with E20 petrol is 13.5 kmpl. It has to be mentioned that this mileage is for the highway, where the speed was maintained at 60 to 70 kmph.

Soon after this, the vlogger then mentions and shows that they fill the vehicle with two litres of E0 petrol. They then once again had to push-start the vehicle as the fuel level was extremely low. Now they start driving the vehicle on the highway, and the vlogger highlights that with the E0 petrol, the vehicle now feels more lively and it is offering better performance.
Additionally, he adds that the performance of the air conditioning system has also improved. They then continue driving the vehicle on the highway at the same 60 to 70 kmph speeds to keep the comparison fair. Finally, the vehicle stops, and the reading which it shows is 87,351, which means the vehicle has driven 36 km with 2 litres of the E0 petrol. As for the mileage, it came to about 18 kmpl.

When the drop in mileage was calculated percentage-wise, the figure came to a 25 percent drop, which is extremely high. The Government of India has repeatedly stated that the drop in older cars will be around 4 to 5 percent. However, this particular experiment shows that the drop in mileage is a lot more than claimed by the authorities. Additionally, he added that with the Altroz Racer, the same drop was around 38 percent.
