Accident in Vietnam: Boat full of Indian tourists capsized, 15 died, Embassy issued helpline number

New Delhi, July 11. A tragic accident occurred on Saturday near Phu Quoc island of Vietnam, when a boat carrying Indian tourists capsized. 15 people died in the accident that occurred around 10.30 am. Most of them were tourists from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The Indian Embassy in Vietnam has shared this information.

According to news agency Reuters, there were a total of 36 people on the boat, including four crew members. Of these, all 32 tourists were Indians. 21 people have been rescued. It is being told that the tourists were not wearing life jackets and when the boat capsized they got trapped under the boat.

According to the embassy, ​​after the accident, search and rescue operations are going on by the local administration. At present, all the information related to the incident is being collected from the local authorities and the situation is being continuously monitored.

Eyewitnesses said that other boats present nearby immediately reached the spot and started pulling the passengers out of the water. After this, Border Security Force, Navy, Coast Guard and other rescue agencies also reached the spot. However, the rescue operation remained difficult due to high waves and many people trapped inside the boat.

21 tourists were rescued, bodies of all the dead recovered

According to officials, 21 people were rescued safely in the accident while the bodies of all the deceased have been recovered. The injured have been admitted to hospitals for treatment. At present, the reasons for the boat capsizing are not known. The local administration has started investigating the matter.

The Indian Embassy said in a statement released on social media platform X, ‘In a tragic incident, a boat carrying Indian tourists has capsized near Phu Quoc island of Vietnam. Control rooms have been set up at the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City and the Indian Embassy in Hanoi to assist Indian citizens.

PM Modi expressed deep sorrow over the accident

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep sorrow over the boat accident involving Indian tourists in Vietnam. Expressing condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this incident, he expressed hope for the speedy recovery of the injured.

And Andhra Pradesh government is also keeping an eye on the entire matter. The government has said that information is being collected as to how many people of Andhra Pradesh have been affected in the boat accident. At present, the exact number of people in the state who have died has not been confirmed.
