Indian tourist boat capsizes in Vietnam, 15 dead, rescue operation underway
New Delhi: A boat carrying Indian tourists capsized in the sea on Saturday near Phu Quoc island of Vietnam. In this tragic accident, 15 Indians died, while 21 people were rescued safely. Immediately after the incident, the relief operation of the local administration started.
At present, the Indian Embassy is keeping an eye on the entire incident and is in constant touch with the local authorities. Emergency response centers have also been set up in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to help the affected families. According to the report of news agency Reuters, local officials said that a total of 36 people were aboard the boat. These included 32 Indian tourists, 3 crew members and 1 attendant. 15 Indian tourists lost their lives in the accident, while the remaining 21 people were saved.
As soon as the news of the accident was received, the Indian Embassy in Vietnam confirmed this by sharing a post on social media platform X. The embassy wrote in its tweet, “In an extremely tragic incident, a boat carrying several Indian tourists capsized a few hours ago near Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam. The exact details of the accident are being ascertained, search and rescue operations are currently underway by local authorities.”
According to local officials, the boat was returning to An Thoi port from Hoan Me Rut Island. Meanwhile, the boat overturned in the sea about 400 meters away from the coast. According to initial information, there were high waves in the sea at that time, due to which the accident occurred. However, investigation into the exact cause of the incident is still ongoing.
