Tremors were felt a few days ago also

This earthquake has come at a time when, a few days ago, earthquake tremors were felt in Hingoli as well as in Parbhani and Nanded districts. At present, no damage has been reported from Saturday’s earthquake.

On Thursday, earthquake tremors were felt four times in Hingoli, Parbhani and Nanded districts, due to which many houses were damaged. How is intensity measured on the Richter scale?

Let us tell you that the intensity of earthquake is measured on the Richter scale. In an earthquake of 4 to 4.9 magnitude, household items can fall from their place. If the intensity is 5 to 5.9, heavy objects and furniture can also be shaken. The foundations of buildings can be affected in an earthquake of 6 to 6.9 magnitude. There is a risk of buildings collapsing in a magnitude 7 to 7.9 earthquake, while an earthquake of magnitude 8 to 8.9 carries the possibility of tsunami and widespread devastation. Earthquakes of magnitude 9 or more are considered the most destructive.

Why do earthquakes occur?

The seven major tectonic plates present within the Earth keep changing their places continuously. When there is a collision or friction between these plates, energy is released and an earthquake occurs. Due to earthquake, life is affected and sometimes huge damage is caused due to collapse of buildings.
