The protest that started against BJP canceling the ticket of former Home Minister Dr. Narottam Mishra and making Ashutosh Tiwari its candidate in Datia Assembly by-election, turned violent on Saturday (July 11). During the protest that started on Friday evening, about 5000 supporters blocked National Highway-44 (NH-44) for more than 11 hours.

Police have registered an FIR against 27 named leaders and 200 unidentified activists under various sections of the Indian Code of Justice (BNS). The named accused include District General Secretary Bhure Chaudhary, Councilor Akku Dubey, Brijesh Dubey, Anoop Yadav, District Minister Bhanu Thakur, Business Cell President Raju Gugoria, District Vice President Prashant Dangi, District Member Lala Rajak, BJYM District President Man Singh Kushwaha, Vijay Jhanda Guru, BJYM leader Akash Bhargava, Lavkush Gurjar, Sunil Dubey (farmer leader) and others.

After the incident, BJP leadership asked Dr. He has given indications of moving forward by taking Narottam Mishra along and has tried to convey the message of normalcy in the organization. However, the anger of the workers at the grassroots level is still not completely calmed down.

According to sources, some party officials are in favor of quickly resolving this dispute and moving ahead, while a large number of workers and officials are still dissatisfied with the negligence in ticket distribution. In such a situation, the resentment within BJP does not seem to end completely before the Datia by-election.

The situation worsened after a clash with the police and administration team that came to remove the protesters. Police say that the protesters pelted stones at the police force including the SP, Collector, after which water cannon and tear gas had to be used to control the situation.

BJP workers involved in the protest allege that first there was stone pelting by the police, after which the situation went out of control. According to the police, more than eight policemen including SP Mayur Khandelwal, SDOP Poonamchand Yadav, Indergarh TI Narendra Singh Rajput were injured in the violence. Collector Swapnil Wankhede has also confirmed that stones were pelted at him.

BJP workers claim that District General Secretary Bhure Chaudhary, Kisan Morcha Vice President Sumit Yadav, Rajeev Sen and some women workers were also injured in the incident. Police allege that miscreants vandalized police vehicles and overturned some vehicles. On the other hand, BJP workers allege that the police vandalized their vehicles. Both sides are accusing each other of disturbing peace and inciting violence.
