Big announcement by UP government, good news for cow rearers
Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government is running new schemes for cattle farmers with the aim of promoting indigenous breed of cows and increasing milk production in the state. Under these schemes, the government is providing 40 to 50 percent financial assistance to the farmers and interested people who start cow rearing. The government believes that this will create new employment opportunities in rural areas, increase the income of farmers and also strengthen milk production in the state.
Grant will be available through two schemes
The government has implemented two separate schemes to conserve indigenous breed of cows and encourage dairy business. The first scheme is Mini Nandini Krishak Samriddhi Yojana, under which grant up to 50 percent of the project cost will be given on setting up a dairy of 10 indigenous cows. The estimated cost of this unit has been fixed at around Rs 23.60 lakh.
The second scheme is the Chief Minister Swadeshi Cow Promotion Scheme. In this, up to 40 percent subsidy will be available on setting up a small dairy unit with two indigenous cows. On this unit costing around Rs 2 lakh, a maximum financial assistance of up to Rs 80 thousand will be provided to the eligible beneficiary.
These indigenous breeds will get priority
Major indigenous breeds of the country, Gir, Sahiwal and Tharparkar have been included in both the schemes. These breeds are considered suitable for dairy business due to high milk production, better health and adaptability to Indian climate. The aim of the government is to increase the number of these breeds as well as promote quality milk production.

Gir breed cow has the capacity to give about 14 to 16 liters of milk per day. Sahiwal cow also gives an average of 15 to 16 liters of milk and maintains milk production for a long time. Whereas Tharparkar breed gives about 12 to 14 liters of milk per day and is known to produce milk for about 300 days. Due to good demand for the milk of these breeds in the market, cattle farmers have the possibility of getting better income. Apart from this, high quality cows also get good prices, due to which dairy business can prove to be profitable.
Application process started
The application process to avail the benefits of these schemes has started. Interested farmers and animal husbandry can apply online through the official website of the department. Apart from this, detailed information about the eligibility of the scheme, required documents and application process can also be obtained from the office of the Chief Veterinary Officer of the concerned district.
