Hunger strike continues on 15th day: Sonam Wangchuk’s health deteriorated further at Jantar Mantar, lost 7.8 kg weight
The health condition of educationist and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was on an indefinite hunger strike during the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, turned critical on Sunday. According to doctors, his blood pressure has come down to 104/66 mm Hg, while his weight has reduced by 7.8 kg since the beginning of the hunger strike. Wangchuk appeared extremely weak in the video shared by CJP founder Abhishek Dipke.
Protest reached 23rd day, Wangchuk’s 15th day
The ongoing protest at Jantar Mantar entered its 23rd day on Sunday. Sonam Wangchuk has been involved in the movement since June 28 and is on an indefinite hunger strike for the 15th consecutive day. Representatives of various political parties, social organizations and intellectual class are likely to reach the protest site.
Many prominent leaders and intellectuals will support
On Sunday, former Kerala minister K.K. Shailaja, Minister K.N. Balagopal, P. Rajiv and Samajwadi Party MP Pushpendra Saroj will reach the protest site and express their support. This is expected to provide widespread political and social support to the demonstration.
Jayati Ghosh’s public lecture on unemployment
The day’s program will conclude with a public lecture on “The Economics of Unemployment” by renowned economist Jayati Ghosh. During this, increasing unemployment among youth, its economic impact and possible solutions will be discussed. At the same time, Neha, Manish, Deepak Kumar Verma and Amin, members of All India Students Association (AISA) associated with CPI(ML) Liberation, are also continuing their indefinite hunger strike on a separate platform.
‘Don’t find hero in anyone else’: Sonam Wangchuk
On Saturday, Sonam Wangchuk made an emotional appeal to the citizens, saying that instead of seeing them as heroes, every person should fulfill his own responsibilities. He said, “Don’t look for a hero in anyone else, be the hero of your own life. Fulfill your responsibilities as a citizen.” He also called upon a large number of people to join the Parliament march on 20th July.
